    Akureyri is the Northern Capital of Iceland with a population of a few hundred during the emigration period. This photograph was taken between 1880 and 1890. The steamship anchored offshore is probably the S.S. Camoens. At this time, Akureyri had one of the two hospitals in Iceland.
