Forefather Finding Facility

This site has in addition to Icelandic Census records, birth-, death- and marriage records, a database containing the names and relationships of more than 500,000 of the estimated 800,000 people who have ever lived in Iceland. The database can produce ancestor reports in Icelandic that sometimes trace back to Scandanavian nobility before Iceland was settled in about 850 AD. It can also report descendants.
To request a search, email as many of the following items as you have available. The extra information helps to distinguish your ancestors from many other people with the same name.

    • Name. Use the maiden name of females.
    • Birth Date. Provide at least approximate dates.
    • District where the person lived.
    • Spouse, if any.
    • Ancestors or children.
    • Emigration. Information on your ancestors emigration can be of great help.
